Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Train Near Newark

NEWARK, DE — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a CSX train last evening near Newark, as confirmed by Delaware State Police.

The incident occurred around 5:15 PM Wednesday, near 4949 Ogletown Stanton Road. The train, en route from New York to Washington, D.C., collided with a 54-year-old man from Smyrna, Delaware, who was walking alongside the tracks with his back to the oncoming train. Despite the train operator sounding the horn, preliminary findings suggest the man did not move away from the tracks. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity is withheld pending family notification.
