WASHINGTON, DC – Brandon Goodwin, 38, from Washington, D.C., faces felony second-degree theft charges following his recent indictment by a grand jury in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.
Goodwin is accused of stealing merchandise from a Target store in Northwest Washington, D.C., on March 28, 2024. Following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police, he was arrested. He is scheduled for arraignment on May 1, 2024.
This is not Goodwin’s first encounter with the law regarding theft; he has at least two prior theft convictions. As a result, he faces enhanced penalties under the District’s laws, including a mandatory minimum of one year in jail for the charge due to his repeat offender status.
This case is part of a broader effort by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, which has indicted 39 cases involving felony second-degree theft charges since September 1, 2023, targeting repeat offenders.
