Maryland Man Charged with Murder of Girlfriend’s Husband

WASHINGTON – Keyon Slaughter, a 27-year-old resident of Waldorf, Maryland, has been formally arraigned on multiple charges related to the December 2022 murder of Dana Bailey, Jr. This announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.

Slaughter faces severe charges including first-degree premeditated murder while armed, first-degree felony murder while armed, first-degree burglary while armed, and related firearm offenses. He is also charged with illegal possession of a firearm due to a prior conviction.

The indictment details that on the morning of December 5, 2022, Slaughter forcibly entered the Southeast Washington, D.C. apartment shared by his girlfriend and her husband, Dana Bailey, Jr. The murder followed Bailey’s discovery of an affair between his wife and Slaughter earlier that year. According to evidence presented by the government, Slaughter shot Bailey once in the chest and then fled to North Carolina. Before succumbing to his injuries, Bailey identified Slaughter as his assailant to a responding officer.

At the time of the murder, Slaughter was on supervised probation following a 2019 armed robbery conviction in Charles County, Maryland. He was apprehended in July 2023 and has remained in custody awaiting trial.
