McKees Rocks Man Sentenced to Over Three Years for Illegal Firearm Possession

Bars from a prison jail cast a shadow on the floro.

PITTSBURGH, PA – Shawn Layne, a 39-year-old resident of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 37 months in prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. This sentence was delivered by United States District Judge Christy Criswell Wiegand, as announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

The charges stem from a June 14, 2023, operation in which the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Pennsylvania State Police executed a search warrant at Layne’s home. During the search, authorities discovered a loaded handgun in Layne’s bedroom. Previous felony drug convictions in Allegheny County made it illegal for Layne to possess any firearms or ammunition under federal law.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brendan J. McKenna. United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan praised the collaborative efforts of the FBI and state police that led to Layne’s conviction and sentencing.
