Washington, D.C. – A fatal shooting in Southeast has claimed the life of a 15-year-old girl, prompting a homicide investigation by the D.C. Metro Police.

At around 10:48 PM on Sunday, officers patrolling the 2400 block of Elvans Road heard gunshots. Upon investigating, they discovered Niomi Russell, a teenager from Northwest, fatally injured inside an apartment building.

Preliminary findings suggest the shots were fired from a vehicle targeting individuals outside. Russell ran inside for safety where she was later found. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and are offering a reward for tips leading to an arrest.
