Vehicle Theft and Shooting Incident Under Investigation in Clifton

Clifton, NJ – The Clifton Police Department is investigating a vehicle theft and associated shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning, around 2 AM, on Day Street. A city resident from Vreeland Avenue was awakened by the sound of his vehicle being stolen. The resident pursued the thief in another vehicle, eventually confronting him a few blocks away.

After being intercepted, the suspect abandoned the stolen vehicle and fled on foot. While initially there was no concrete evidence to support reports of gunfire during the incident, detectives have since confirmed that the suspect fired at least one shot at the resident during the encounter. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided as they become available.
