Man Arrested After Attacking UPS Driver in Williamstown

WILLIAMSTOWN, NJ—A disturbing incident unfolded at the Madison Court Apartments on April 17, 2024, leading to the arrest of 50-year-old Ernest Peterson from Sicklerville, NJ. Monroe Township Police Department responded to a distress call around 12:22 PM, involving an assault on a UPS driver.

Upon arrival, Officer Roy Pierson discovered the suspect inside a slowly moving UPS truck that had just hit a curb. Peterson was reportedly attacking the driver with a knife. Officer Pierson intervened, physically removing Peterson from the vehicle and, with assistance from Patrolman Gordon, arrested him after a brief resistance.

The UPS driver sustained minor lacerations above his right eye and on his back, and was treated at Jefferson Hospital. Peterson faces charges including Aggravated Assault and various weapons-related offenses. The initial confrontation began when Peterson demanded a ride and the driver refused, citing company policy.

Authorities are urging any witnesses to come forward and contact Detective Josh Sheppard with any further information related to this violent encounter.
