On Wednesday, Derrick Teeter, 23, from Oxon Hill, was handed an 84-month prison sentence for a carjacking incident dating back to June 2. The court found Teeter guilty of deceiving his rideshare driver by pretending to be unwell before forcibly taking the vehicle, abandoning the driver, and dragging him a short distance along South Capitol Street SE, Washington, DC.

Despite the victim seeking help from passing drivers and alerting authorities, Teeter managed to evade immediate capture. In Superior Court in February, Teeter plead guilty to robbery and illegal use of the vehicle, leading to a subsequent prison term of 60 months for robbery and an additional 24 months for unlawful vehicle use during sentencing last Friday.

The court rejected Teeter’s plea for leniency under the Youth Rehabilitation Act. The stolen vehicle was recovered the day after the incident.
