Woman Scammed of Thousands, Suspect Arrested in Suffolk County

Hauppauge, NY -* Suffolk County Police have apprehended a Queens man involved in a scam that cost a woman a substantial amount of money. A 65-year-old woman was deceived by a fake computer alert prompting her to pay $17,000 to halt a supposed hack. Subsequently, she was coerced into providing an additional $10,000. Upon contacting law enforcement, detectives intervened during the second transaction and arrested Vikram Kumar.

Kumar, aged 26 and from Queens, was charged with Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd Degree on Tuesday. Authorities urge individuals who suspect they may have fallen victim to the same fraudulent scheme to reach out to Financial Crimes at 631-852-6821.
