Multiple Families Displaced in Overnight Fire in Newark

Newark, NJ – One woman was injured and dpzems of families were displaced in a two-alarm fire in Newark early Monday morning. Authorities reported that at 12:04 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire in an occupied 5-story building at 502 Market St., with additional units called to contain the blaze shortly after.

The tenant was taken to University Hospital for possible smoke inhalation, and the fire was declared under control at 1:10 a.m. Of the families affected, 19 were relocated, including 37 adults and three children.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by the Newark Department of Public Safety’s Arson Unit.
