Woman Scammed Out of $30k by ‘The Police’

Pittsburgh, PA – The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office was informed by Munhall Police earlier today that a woman had fallen victim to a scam involving an impersonator claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office.

The victim, scammed out of almost $30,000, received a call on April 22, 2024, where the caller, identifying themselves as Commander Leo O’Neill, threatened the victim with arrest warrants.
Residents are reminded that the Sheriff’s Office does not discuss warrant information, request payment via phone, utilize electronic transfers or payment apps, as well as direct payments in the form of cryptocurrency or via payment kiosks. Anyone receiving such calls should confirm with the office directly.
