Cumberland Man Arrested for Axe Attack

CUMBERLAND, MD — A serious incident occurred on Sunday evening when Zechariah Tyler Jones, 33, of Cumberland, was arrested following an attempted assault with an axe. Cumberland Police Department officers were called to the scene on the 200 block of Oak Street around 7:16 PM after reports of the assault.

The altercation involved Jones allegedly trying to attack a victim with an axe, during which he struck the victim’s vehicle instead. Jones was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. He was subsequently seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.

Jones faces multiple charges including first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and malicious destruction of property under $1000.
