Fatal Collision Involving Bicyclist on Black Horse Pike

HAMILTON, NJ — A tragic motor vehicle crash claimed the life of a bicyclist on the Black Horse Pike near milepost 45.5 last Friday evening. The Township of Hamilton Police Department reported to the scene at approximately 8:22 PM.

The crash involved a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, driven by 21-year-old Luca Scotto of Blackwood, and a bicyclist, 61-year-old Arthur Herz of Mays Landing. Herz, who was not wearing a helmet, entered the westbound lanes and collided with the Jeep.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Scotto, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Pomona for evaluation. He was wearing his seatbelt during the incident.

The roadway remained closed for about four hours as authorities, including the Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad, AtlantiCare Paramedics, Laureldale Fire Department, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation, conducted their investigation.
