Toms River Special Olympics Athletes Shine at Long Branch High School Event

LONG BRANCH, NJ—District athletes recently displayed their skills at the Special Olympics Area 6 competition on Wednesday. Hosted at Long Branch High School, the event was organized by the TRRS Special Olympics Program, led by Directors Nico Mercadante and Nicole D’Ambroso.

Mercadante expressed the team’s focus on fostering camaraderie, skill development, and a profound sense of community belonging. The event featured competitions in the 50m dash, 100m dash, long jump, javelin, and shot put, highlighting the athletes’ diverse talents.

“Dedication and enthusiasm were evident as the Toms River Special Olympics Team triumphed,” Mercadante stated, emphasizing that success is measured not just by medals, but also by the joy found in the journey.
