Frederick Woman Found Guilty of Child Abuse and Assault

Bars from a prison jail cast a shadow on the floro.

FREDERICK, MD—In the Frederick County Circuit Court, Ana Cecilia Gonzalez, 50, was convicted of 2nd-Degree Child Abuse and 2nd-Degree Assault on Friday night after a two-day bench trial led by Judge Julia Martz-Fisher.

The charges stem from an incident in July 2023, when a minor reported to a teacher, a school counselor, and a school resource officer at a Frederick County elementary school that she was regularly hit and verbally abused by Gonzalez, expressing feelings of being unsafe.

This disclosure prompted an investigation by Child Protective Services and the Frederick Police Department.

Following the conviction, the court revoked Gonzalez’s bond, and she will remain in custody at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center pending her sentencing. The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Erin Pearl of the Special Victims Unit.
