How This Fourth Grader Became the Mayor of Rockville, Maryland

ROCKVILLE, MD – In a unique educational event, Mayor Callie Walker, a fourth grader at St. Mary’s School, assumed the role of Mayor for a Day in Rockville. This special occasion took place after Mayor Walker won the city’s “If I Were Mayor for a Day” essay contest.

During her one-day term, Mayor Walker received a comprehensive tour of the city, where she learned about the different divisions within the city government. Her schedule included a detailed briefing on the operations of the Rockville City Police Department (RCPD) by Chief Brito.

Cpl. Crowe and the current Mayor, Monique Ashton, escorted Mayor Walker throughout the day, supporting her experience as mayor. The event provided the young winner with practical insight into the workings of city governance.
