Political Consultant Charged for Sending Fake Joe Biden ‘Malarkey’ Robocalls

U.S. President Joe Biden

CONCORD, NH – Steven Kramer, a political consultant, faces criminal charges for sending thousands of misleading robocalls to New Hampshire voters. The robocalls, which utilized artificial intelligence to mimic President Joe Biden’s voice, were designed to dissuade voters from participating in this year’s presidential primary.

Kramer, who has admitted to orchestrating the robocalls in January, just days before the primary, claimed his intention was to highlight the potential dangers and capabilities of AI technology.

However, prosecutors argue that his actions clearly violated state laws prohibiting voter suppression. In the calls, an AI-generated voice resembling President Biden’s could be heard saying, “What a bunch of malarkey!” followed by a false claim that voting in the presidential primary would prevent individuals from voting in the general election in November.

The indictment includes over two dozen counts, with many of the charges being serious felonies related to voter suppression. Additional charges include misdemeanors related to the deceptive nature of the calls.
