Cold Case Revisited: Baltimore County Police Seek Information on 1997 Murder

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — The Baltimore County Police Department is renewing efforts to solve the murder of Barbara Stenzel, who was found strangled on her couch in Dundalk over two decades ago. Stenzel, a 37-year-old mother of two, was murdered in her home located on the 2600 block of Yorkway on May 27, 1997.

Investigators have recently shared a composite sketch of a male suspect who was reportedly seen entering Stenzel’s apartment on the morning of her murder. Witnesses from that time described the suspect as being in his 20s or 30s. With this resurgence of interest, detectives are keen to interview this individual or anyone who may have information about him.

The Baltimore County Police are asking for the public’s assistance in this longstanding case. Anyone with information is urged to contact detectives at 410-887-3943. This cold case, deeply ingrained in the community’s memory, continues to haunt the Old Dundalk Neighborhood, prompting a call for closure not just for the family, but for the community at large.
