33-Year-Old Owing Mills Man Killed in Crash on South Dupont Highway

WOODSIDE, DE – A tragic two-vehicle collision early this morning on South Dupont Highway near Woodside resulted in the death of a 33-year-old man from Owings Mills, Maryland.

The accident occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m. when a Freightliner tractor-trailer, operated by a 51-year-old man from Greensboro, North Carolina, was slowing to turn right into a business south of Barney Jenkins Road. During this maneuver, a GMC T-Series box truck, following behind in the same lane, collided with the rear of the Freightliner’s trailer.

The driver of the GMC, who was not using a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of his family. The Freightliner driver did not sustain any injuries in the incident.

The roadway was closed for about five hours as Delaware State Police conducted their investigation and cleared the accident site. The investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash continues.
