Suspect Arrested in Maryland Public Safety Agent’s Murder

HURRICANE, WV — Emanuel Edward Sewell, a suspect in the homicide of a Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services agent, is now in custody. Sewell was apprehended shortly after 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, while traveling on I-64 near Hurricane, West Virginia.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force officers conducted a traffic stop and subsequently took Sewell into custody. He is accused of killing 33-year-old Davis Martinez, a six-year employee of the Maryland Department of Public Safety & Correctional Services.

Martinez was conducting a resident check on Sewell, who had been released from prison in 2021, at the 2800 block of Terrace Drive in Chevy Chase. After Martinez failed to report back to work, officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police 2nd District were dispatched to perform a welfare check at the location.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Martinez deceased inside the residence. The medical examiner has ruled the death a homicide, noting that the victim suffered multiple injuries.
