Illinois Lottery Player Wins Record $552 Million Mega Millions Jackpot

Money - Lottery winning jackpot.

CHICAGO, IL – A historic win was recorded in Illinois as an iLottery player claimed a staggering $552 million in the Mega Millions jackpot. This victory marks the largest online lottery win in U.S. history. The lucky winner utilized the lottery’s mobile app to purchase the ticket for the drawing on Monday, successfully matching all numbers including the Mega Ball: 19-37-40-63-69-17.

This monumental win occurs just two years after another notable Illinois success, where a $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot was claimed. That prize, won with a ticket from a Speedway in Des Plaines, remains the largest in Illinois history and was the third largest in the U.S. at the time.

The latest winner is the fourth Illinois Lottery participant to win a million dollars or more this year in the Mega Millions game. Impressively, this is also the second online winner from Illinois this week alone, following a $2.8 million Fast Play prize won on Tuesday.

The sales of Mega Millions tickets during this jackpot period totaled nearly $28 million, enabling the Illinois Lottery to contribute over $11 million to the Common School Fund, which supports K-12 education across the state.

Lottery officials remind winners they have one year from the drawing date to claim their prizes and suggest securely signing and storing winning tickets. Mega Millions draws occur twice weekly, on Tuesday and Friday nights, with tickets priced at $2. Players can also opt for the Megaplier feature for an additional $1, which multiplies non-jackpot prizes.
