Juvenile Arrested for Accidentally Shooting Himself Inside Jersey Shore Bathroom

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – The Atlantic City Police Department has arrested a juvenile who accidentally shot himself on June 16.

At 7:09 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting at Chelsea Avenue and the Boardwalk. They found a 16-year-old male with a gunshot wound, who was then transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center with a non-life-threatening injury.

Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit conducted an investigation, including witness interviews and surveillance footage review. A second interview with the juvenile and his mother revealed that the initial story was false. The juvenile had shot himself inside a public restroom stall on the Boardwalk after illegally bringing a firearm from Philadelphia to Atlantic City.

The juvenile, a 16-year-old male from Philadelphia, PA, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm under the age of 18, possession of hollow-point ammunition, and providing false information to law enforcement. He was remanded to Harborfields Detention Facility.

The charges are accusations, and the juvenile is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
