Ongoing Investigation into Fatal Hit-and-Run in Takoma Park

TAKOMA PARK, MD – Montgomery County Police’s Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is actively investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred on University Boulevard East in Takoma Park.

The incident took place on June 3, 2024, around 1:17 PM. Responding officers from Takoma Park Police and Montgomery County Fire Rescue found 42-year-old Candido Noe Rojas Rojas lying in the eastbound lanes with severe head injuries. Rojas, a resident of Takoma Park, was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy performed by the Office of the Medical Examiner in Washington, D.C. confirmed that the injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Investigators have determined that the vehicle involved was traveling westbound before striking Rojas and fleeing the scene via Lebanon St. into Prince George’s County.

Detectives are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as they continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
