LANCASTER, PA – The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office announced charges against three individuals following a grand jury presentment in the fatal shooting of a 1-year-old by a 3-year-old on October 18, 2022. The incident occurred in the 500 block of Woodward Street.

The Lancaster City Bureau of Police has filed charges against an 18-year-old juvenile, Nathaniel Jimenez, 32, and Rafael Jimenez, 22, all of whom resided at the scene of the shooting.

Assistant District Attorneys Jennifer Ponessa and Fritz Haverstick led the grand jury investigation, which compelled testimony from previously uncooperative individuals.

District Attorney Heather Adams praised the grand jury’s dedication, stating, “The members of the grand jury have been very dedicated, and this presentment is just one example of how it assists us in making progress with difficult investigations. The grand jury is an effective tool and because of that and the commitment of law enforcement and my office, we were able to file charges in this tragic firearms-related death of a toddler.”

The grand jury determined that the firearm involved belonged to the juvenile defendant and was left loaded on a dining room table, accessible to the victim, the 3-year-old shooter, and two other minors present at the time.
