Philadelphia Just Fixed This Extremely Embarrassing Mistake

Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) recently installed a new sign on I-95 directing drivers to Central Philadelphia, but a typo has garnered attention.

PennDOT announced the completion of the I-95 Cottman ramp reopening project, only to realize that the sign contains a spelling error. In a tweet, PennDOT acknowledged the mistake, saying, “We were so focused on getting this done and reopening the 95 Cottman ramp that we moved a little too quickly…and forgot to proofread. Sorry, Philadelphia.”

The sign, intended to guide motorists to “Central Philadelphia,” features the misspelling “Cenrtal.” PennDOT has not yet provided a timeline for when the correction will be made.

The sign was fixed, but not until after the city covered it up.

Finally, a new sign, with correct spelling, was installed on Monday.
