Marjorie Taylor Greene Mocks Jamaal Bowman Following Primary Defeat

NEWYORK—In the wake of New York Congressman Jamaal Bowman’s loss in the Democratic primary for New York’s suburban Westchester County, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene took to Twitter to openly mock the departing congressman. In a parody-laden post,

Greene highlighted Bowman’s controversial action of pulling a fire alarm to delay a vote in the House, sharing an image of a fire alarm and bidding him a provocative farewell.

Bowman, a member of the progressive “Squad,” faced a challenging and costly primary, described as the most expensive Democratic primary to date, with spending by his opponent estimated between $14-16 million. During the campaign, Bowman, who is Black, accused his opponent of using “racist dog whistles.”

In response, his opponent, George Latimer, who is white, criticized Bowman for being anti-Israel and claimed Bowman focused exclusively on issues concerning “Black and brown” people.

The primary battle was intensely fought, with significant financial resources poured into the race. This highlighted deep divisions within the Democratic Party on various issues, including foreign policy and racial justice.

Greene’s post-primary comments have sparked further discussion on the nature of political discourse and politicians’ use of social media to address their opponents.
