Fatal Motorcycle Crash Investigated in Smyrna

SMYRNA, DE – A fatal motorcycle accident occurred yesterday afternoon, claiming the life of a Dover man. Delaware State Police are currently investigating the collision, which took place at the intersection of Dupont Parkway and the entrance ramp to DE State Route 1 northbound.

The incident happened on July 2, at approximately 2:02 PM, when a 2017 Toyota Camry, driven by a 26-year-old woman from Bear, Delaware, was making a left turn into the entrance ramp for DE SR 1 northbound. Simultaneously, a 2002 Yamaha YZFR1 motorcycle, operated by a 54-year-old Dover man, was traveling southbound in the left lane of Dupont Parkway. The vehicles collided at the intersection, leading to the motorcyclist being ejected from his vehicle.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of his family. The driver of the Toyota was unharmed in the accident.
