Levittown Man Arrested for Causing Fire with Fireworks

Levittown, NY – The Arson Bomb Squad has arrested Karamjit Singh, 33, of Levittown, for causing a fire on July 4 at 8:50 AM.

Officers responded to reports of a fire at 128 Red Maple Drive North. Investigation revealed that Singh provided an 11-year-old child with fireworks and instructed the child to ignite them. The firework malfunctioned, igniting a detached shed and spreading to Singh’s residence and a neighboring home at 122 Red Maple Drive North. The Wantagh Fire Department responded and extinguished the fires.

Both homes suffered extensive damage, and a tenant residing on the second floor of Singh’s home was displaced. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The 11-year-old was released to a family member.

Singh faces charges including two counts of Arson 4th Degree, Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, Unlawfully Selling Fireworks to a Person under 18, Unlawfully Possessing Use or Explode Fireworks, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He will be arraigned on July 5 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead. The Nassau County Fire Marshals were on scene to investigate.
