Child Dies After July 4 Shooting in Temple Hills

Temple Hills, MD – A child shot in Temple Hills on Thursday has died from his injuries. The victim, six-year-old Ahsan Payton of Washington, DC, succumbed to his wounds late Saturday night. Authorities are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case.

Patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 4500 block of Akron Street at approximately 7:50 p.m. on July 4. Payton was found with a gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital for treatment. He died from his injuries three days later.

Two adults were also injured in the incident. A man sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while a woman was treated on the scene for a graze wound.

The preliminary investigation indicated the shooting occurred during a holiday gathering in the neighborhood. Detectives from the Homicide Unit are actively working to determine a motive and identify any suspects involved.
