Montgomery County Police Probe Death Following Apartment Fight

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — A death investigation is underway in Montgomery County after police discovered the body of a 45-year-old man inside an apartment on Stewart Lane. Montgomery County Police Department’s Major Crimes Division took charge following a distress call about a fight at the 11400 block location early Tuesday morning.

The incident began around 1:06 a.m., when officers were dispatched to the scene to address reports of a fight in progress. Upon arrival, police detained 46-year-old Wesley Cooper of Gaithersburg. Further investigation led officers to the body of the deceased man inside the apartment, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body has since been transferred to the Chief Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy to ascertain the precise cause and manner of death. Meanwhile, Cooper faces charges of second-degree assault and first-degree murder and is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit pending a bond hearing. The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
