LUSBY, MD — A fatal crash involving a motorcycle occurred on Maryland Rt. 4 near Nursery Road in Lusby around 7 PM last night. Authorities from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Patrol Bureau and Crash Reconstruction Unit were on the scene following the incident.

Initial findings suggest that the accident happened when Paul O’Neal, 36, from Lusby, riding a Honda motorcycle northbound at a high speed, collided with the rear passenger side of a northbound Dodge 3500. O’Neal was ejected from his motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

The driver of the Dodge, identified as David Payne, 52, from St. Leonard, did not sustain any injuries. Witnesses corroborated that the motorcycle was traveling at an excessive speed, which likely contributed to the severity of the crash.

Investigations into the crash are ongoing, with speed and failure to control being primary factors under consideration by the authorities.
