Newark Public Safety Director Seeks Help to Identify Robbery Suspects

NEWARK, NJ — Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying suspects involved in a robbery that occurred early Sunday morning, July 14, 2024. The incident took place at around 6:10 a.m. on Ferry Street near Union Street in Newark.

A woman was reportedly assaulted by a Black male who forcibly snatched her purse, causing her to be dragged into the street and injured. She was subsequently transported to University Hospital and is currently in stable condition.

During the robbery, a second suspect brandished a handgun at a witness who attempted to intervene. Both suspects then fled the scene in a black Mazda SUV parked at the intersection of Ferry Street and Union Street.

The first suspect is described as a thin Black male with a dark complexion, last seen wearing a black sweat jacket, pants, and black and white sneakers. The second suspect, also described as thin and Black with a dark complexion, was wearing white sneakers, blue shorts with pants underneath, and a black hooded sweatshirt. The third suspect, who drove the getaway vehicle, remained in the black Mazda SUV and did not exit during the incident.
