Virginia Governor Orders Flags at Half-Staff to Honor Firefighter Corey Comperatore

Richmond, VA — Governor Glenn Youngkin announced today that flags will be flown at half-staff in memory of Corey Comperatore. Comperatore tragically lost his life while shielding his family.

Governor Youngkin announced today via the governor’s official Twitter account that Virginia is in solidarity with Pennsylvania and extends prayers to Comperatore’s family and those still in critical condition.

Corey Comperatore was tragically killed during an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a rally on Saturday. Comparatore, a former fire chief from Buffalo Township, Pennsylvania, was attending the event with his family when the shooting occurred.

According to reports, Comperatore shielded his family during the attack, ultimately sacrificing his life. The shooter, identified by authorities, also injured Trump, who was quickly removed from the scene by Secret Service agents. Another individual was injured in the incident.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Comperatore’s daughter, Allyson, and has raised over $400,000, surpassing its initial goal of $7,000 within hours. Mark Lauer, past president of the Butler County Fire Chiefs Association, praised Comperatore’s heroism, stating, “He died a hero because he was a hero.”
