Jackson Township Man Charged for Death of Infant Left in Hot Car

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ – Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer has announced that Avraham Chaitovsky, 28, from Jackson Township, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child. The charge stems from an incident on July 15, 2024, in Lakewood Township.

Authorities were called to New Egypt Road around 1:45 p.m. on July 15, following reports of a pediatric patient in cardiac arrest. Upon arrival, officers found Hatzolah Medical Services administering lifesaving efforts to an eight-week-old female infant, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigations by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Lakewood Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit concluded that the infant, Chaitovsky’s daughter, was left unattended in his vehicle for an extended period. This act was determined to be the cause of the infant’s death.

Chaitovsky was arrested and is currently held at the Ocean County Jail. The investigation remains active, with potential additional charges pending.

He is no longer listed in the inmate roster at the jail, according to the Ocean County Jail Inmate Search.
