Mays Landing, NJ – Jawaun Yeoman, a 27-year-old resident of Atlantic City, NJ, entered a guilty plea on Tuesday to several serious charges, including second-degree aggravated assault and both second-degree and first-degree firearm offenses. Yeoman, previously convicted under the No Early Release Act, is set to face a 12-year sentence in New Jersey State Prison, with 8.5 years of parole ineligibility under the terms of his plea agreement.
The charges stem from an incident on March 25, 2023, where Atlantic City Police were called to a shooting near Sovereign and Sunset Avenues. Upon arrival, they found an adult male with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his lower back. The investigation revealed that Yeoman was involved in a prearranged fistfight that escalated when he shot the victim in the back.
Yeoman was apprehended in May 2023, and a handgun recovered from him matched the ballistics of the weapon used in the shooting. At the time of this incident, he was on parole following a conviction for second-degree robbery.
The case was handled by the Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Unit of the Atlantic Prosecutor’s Office, with the Atlantic City Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit leading the investigation. Yeoman remains in custody, with sentencing scheduled for October 2024.
