Firearm Recovered During Traffic Stop in Hyde Park, Juvenile Arrested

HYDE PARK, MA—A routine traffic stop by the Boston Police Department’s Youth Violence Strike Force (YVSF) led to the arrest of a 14-year-old juvenile for multiple firearm offenses. The incident occurred around 1:30 AM on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at 149 Wood Ave in Hyde Park.

The YVSF officers were patrolling Wood Avenue when they noticed a vehicle exceeding the speed limit with an expired registration. After initiating a traffic stop using emergency signals, officers approached the vehicle, identifying the driver and three passengers.

During the stop, a search revealed a North American Arms .22 caliber revolver concealed within the waistband of a 14-year-old passenger. The firearm, which had a defaced serial number and was loaded with five .22 caliber cartridges, led to the juvenile’s arrest on charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number. The suspect is expected to be arraigned on these charges.
