TOWNSEND, DE – Delaware State Police have arrested Linwood Sample, a 52-year-old man from Smyrna, Delaware, on charges of felony DUI, marking his seventh offense. The arrest occurred early this morning, following a traffic stop initiated due to erratic driving.

Around 12:34 AM on July 28, 2024, a trooper patrolling US Route 13 near Fieldsboro Road observed a gray Dodge Magnum with a fictitious Pennsylvania license plate swerving between lanes. After witnessing several traffic violations, the trooper conducted a stop on Fieldsboro Road. During the interaction, Sample exhibited clear signs of impairment, prompting the trooper to administer Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which led to his arrest.

A subsequent computer check revealed that Sample had six previous DUI-related convictions. He was taken to Troop 9, where he was charged and arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11. Sample is currently held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $6,500 cash bond.
