LOS ANGELES, CA—Weichien Huang, a 44-year-old woman from San Dimas, California, has been charged with the murder of her wife and the attempted murder of her mother-in-law, as announced by Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón on Monday.

Following an argument on July 18, Huang allegedly used a katana sword to fatally slash her wife, Fei Chen Chen, and also stabbed her mother-in-law.

The incident escalated when Chen’s mother managed to disarm Huang, preventing further attacks despite sustaining serious injuries herself. She was subsequently hospitalized due to the severity of her injuries.

Authorities were alerted to the situation when a bystander’s video captured Huang placing the sword on a U-Haul truck before a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy arrived.

The video shows Huang picking up the sword and advancing towards the deputy, who then commanded her to drop the weapon.

Following her compliance, Huang directed deputies to their residence where the bodies of Chen and Chen’s mother were discovered, along with a third woman who was found unharmed.

Chen was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
