Randol Contreras Arrested for Brutal Attack on Young Woman in Queens

QUEENS, NY—District Attorney Melinda Katz has charged Randol Contreras with attempted murder following a violent incident in the subway. According to DA Katz, Contreras allegedly launched an unprovoked attack on a young woman, stabbing her multiple times in the torso and slashing her face.

The victim suffered severe injuries including a punctured liver and lung.

Contreras was arraigned late yesterday evening and was remanded into custody. The attack occurred on July 28 near Jamaica Avenue and the Van Wyck Expressway.

In addition to attempted murder, Contreras faces charges of first-degree assault, two counts of attempted robbery, and criminal possession of a weapon.

The DA emphasized the commitment of her office to vigorously prosecute those who perpetrate violence within the mass transit system, which serves millions of New Yorkers. Randol Contreras is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday, August 2.
