Delaware Man Arrested for Multiple Retail Thefts Across New Castle County

NEW CASTLE COUNTY, DE — Delaware State Police have apprehended 46-year-old Spenson Sanchez of Wilmington, Delaware, following a series of retail thefts in New Castle County.

Over the past few months, Sanchez has been linked to 24 incidents of shoplifting, accumulating over $36,000 in stolen merchandise from various local businesses.

From May 15 to August 5, 2024, troopers were called to investigate numerous shoplifting cases involving a black male suspect who fled from several stores including ACME, Best Buy, Burlington, and others. Through detailed investigative work, Sanchez was identified as the suspect behind these thefts, although not all of his accomplices have been apprehended or identified.

The arrest came on August 8, 2024, after a trooper, responding to a new shoplifting report at Ross Dress for Less in Newark, recognized Sanchez from a surveillance photo.

Having known Sanchez from previous cases and aware of existing warrants for his arrest, the trooper was able to take him into custody shortly after at a nearby Marshalls, where he was reported to be shoplifting again.

Sanchez, now facing multiple theft-related charges, remains under investigation as police continue to seek out additional accomplices involved in these retail crimes.
