Brooklyn Man Indicted for Attempted Murder of BOCES Employees in Suffolk County

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the indictment of 22-year-old Josef McLorrain of Brooklyn for his alleged involvement in a vehicular assault on two BOCES employees. McLorrain faces two counts of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, among other charges, following an incident in an Eastern Suffolk BOCES parking lot.

According to the District Attorney, McLorrain is accused of deliberately driving his black Mazda Tribute towards a group of employees at the Bellport Academic Center on June 24, 2024. He reportedly accelerated and struck two individuals, causing them severe injuries. The victims were transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue for urgent medical care.

The indictment, presented before Supreme Court Justice Richard Ambro on August 7, 2024, includes charges of two counts each of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Attempted Assault in the First Degree, and Assault in the Second Degree. Justice Ambro has set bail at $100,000 cash, $250,000 bond, or $500,000 partially secured bond.

McLorrain’s legal representation is provided by attorney Christopher J. Cassar, Esq. He is due back in court on September 11, 2024. The case continues to be prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Maria Troulakis of the Major Crime Bureau, with the investigation led by Detective Michael Richardsen of the Suffolk County Police Department’s Fifth Squad.

District Attorney Tierney emphasized the seriousness of using a vehicle as a weapon and assured that such acts of vehicular violence will be met with stringent legal consequences to protect community safety.
