Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Bicycle Crash Involving Child in Seaford

SEAFORD, Del., Aug. 16, 2024 — The Delaware State Police are investigating a tragic incident that resulted in the death of a 3-year-old bicyclist in Seaford on the evening of August 15, 2024.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. in the Mobile Gardens community. According to the preliminary investigation, a Toyota Tacoma was traveling westbound on a gravel road between North Parkway Road and South Parkway Road. The vehicle, driven by a 56-year-old woman from Seaford, turned southbound onto North Parkway Road, where it struck the 3-year-old child who was riding a bicycle in the middle of the road.

The child, also from Seaford, was immediately transported to a nearby hospital by family members but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Authorities are withholding the child’s name until the family has been fully notified.

The driver of the Tacoma was not injured in the incident. North Parkway Road was closed for approximately four hours as police conducted their investigation and cleared the scene.

The Delaware State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
