Teen Murder Suspect Arrested in Northeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C.— An arrest has been made in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Northeast D.C. earlier this year.

On Thursday, April 25, at approximately 12:30 a.m., officers from the Sixth District responded to reports of a shooting in the 4500 block of Sheriff Road, Northeast. Upon arrival, they found 38-year-old Ricky Canty of Temple Hills, Maryland, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Canty was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

On Wednesday, August 14, the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended 18-year-old Jaylen Suggs of Northeast, D.C., pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant.

Suggs, who was a juvenile at the time of the offense, has been charged as an adult with First Degree Murder While Armed-Felony Murder.
