Erie Police Involved in Early Morning Shooting with Carjacking Suspect

ERIE, PA—An 18-year-old carjacking suspect was shot by Erie police early Friday morning after reportedly firing at officers. The incident occurred near Fifth and State streets, where the main stage for the CelebrateErie festival was set up.

The confrontation took place shortly after 4:00 AM in downtown Erie, in the vicinity scheduled for evening events of the CelebrateErie festival. According to city officials, the suspect is now in stable condition at UPMC Hamot. Fortunately, no police officers were injured during the incident.

Despite the early morning violence, the CelebrateErie festival will proceed as planned. The crime scene has been cleared, and production crews were seen completing the stage setup for performances scheduled to start at 5:30 PM. The city confirmed that CelebrateErie activities began at 11 AM throughout downtown Erie.
