In a statement released on social media, the department humorously debunked the post, noting that the individual depicted is “several years away from turning silver.” This is the latest in a series of misleading posts causing unnecessary alarm in the township.
Authorities are advising the public to verify the authenticity of such posts by visiting the official Gloucester Township Police Facebook page or checking the Missing Persons section on their website at https://gtpolice.com/news. They also recommend that residents delete the post if they have already shared it.
“Before you share an overdramatic post like this, please go to our Gloucester Township Police FB site or to our website and check,” the Gloucester Township Police said in their statement. The department continues to emphasize the importance of fact-checking to prevent the spread of misinformation.
