Newport News Police Department Hosts First-Ever Pickleball Camp for Local Youth

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Newport News Police Department (NNPD) recently wrapped up its first-ever Pickleball Camp, a new addition to the department’s summer camp offerings. The camp, which ended last Thursday, provided local youth with an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of Pickleball, as well as some advanced techniques, while fostering a positive connection with law enforcement.

The camp featured instruction on basic Pickleball skills, along with more advanced moves like the 3rd Shot Drop. In a unique twist, the campers even had the chance to teach NNPD police recruits how to play the game. The weeklong camp concluded with a spirited Round Robin Tournament, where two standout campers emerged as the top players.

The Newport News Police Foundation, Kiln Creek Golf Club and Resort, and the NNPD’s Community Youth Outreach Division were instrumental in organizing and supporting the camp. A professional Pickleball coach led the instruction, ensuring that the participants had both an educational and enjoyable experience.

“We’re thrilled to have introduced Pickleball to our summer camps,” the NNPD said in a statement, thanking all those involved for making the event a success. The department looks forward to continuing such community-building initiatives in the future.
