Virginia Beach Police Investigating Fatal Crash on Shore Drive

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Monday — The Virginia Beach Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Sunday morning on Shore Drive, which left one man dead and another facing charges.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on August 18, 2024, officers responded to a report of a vehicle accident in the 2400 block of Shore Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered two vehicles involved in the collision.

The driver of the first vehicle, identified as 48-year-old Benjamin Alvarado Jr. of Virginia Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Her condition remains unknown.

The driver of the second vehicle, 22-year-old Samuel Randolph of Norfolk, was arrested at the scene and charged with Driving Under the Influence, First Offense. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and additional charges against Randolph are anticipated.

“This incident is under investigation,” the Virginia Beach Police Department said in a statement. Authorities continue to gather evidence and assess the circumstances leading to the fatal collision.
