Wilkes-Barre Man Arrested After Assault on Kidder Street, Apprehended Following Foot Pursuit

WILKES-BARRE, Pa., — A 23-year-old Wilkes-Barre man was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly assaulting a woman on Kidder Street and attempting to flee from police. The incident occurred on August 18, 2024, at approximately 11:48 a.m.

Officers from the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department were dispatched to the area near 884 Kidder Street in response to a reported assault. Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect, identified as Jeffery Alberto, walking nearby. When officers attempted to make contact, Alberto fled on foot, prompting a pursuit.

With the assistance of the department’s K-9 unit, Alberto was eventually apprehended and taken into custody.

The investigation revealed that Alberto had physically assaulted a 20-year-old female victim before attempting to escape the scene. It was also discovered that Alberto had an active warrant for his arrest. The victim was treated on the scene by EMS personnel for her injuries, which were not detailed in the report.

Alberto was transported to City Headquarters for processing and arraignment. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
