Newark Police Seek Public’s Help in Locating Man Wanted for Questioning in Robbery Investigation

NEWARK, N.J. — Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Andre Thompson, 53, who is wanted for questioning in connection with a robbery that took place on August 11, 2024.

The robbery occurred at approximately 11:06 p.m. when the victim was sitting on the porch of her home on Houston Street. A suspect, who arrived in a silver minivan, possibly a Honda Odyssey, exited the vehicle carrying a weapon. The suspect approached the victim, punched her in the face, and stole her purse, which contained $200 and bank cards.

After the robbery, the suspect fled the scene in the minivan, heading northbound on Houston Street toward New York Avenue. The vehicle is described as having tinted rear windows and dark-colored rims. The suspect was wearing a black ski mask, a hooded sweatshirt, and pants at the time of the incident.

Andre Thompson, identified as the driver of the minivan, is described as a dark-skinned Black male, 5’9” with a medium build, a bald head, and a goatee. Authorities are urging anyone with information on Thompson’s whereabouts or the robbery to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Newark Police Department. Anonymous tips may be submitted through the department’s tip line. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are actively seeking to bring the suspect into custody.
