Utica Woman Arrested in Connection with Assault Involving Crowbar

UTICA, N.Y. — A 64-year-old Utica woman has been arrested and charged in connection with an assault that took place in the early hours of July 16, 2024, near the intersection of Varick Street and Huntington Street, according to the Utica Police Department.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m., when police and fire units were dispatched to the scene following a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a female victim who stated that she had been involved in an argument with a male and female, both of whom she knew, over a property dispute.

During the confrontation, the female suspect allegedly began attacking the victim. When the victim attempted to flee, the suspect pursued her with a crowbar. The suspect reportedly caught up with the victim and struck her multiple times with the weapon before fleeing the scene.

The victim was subsequently transported to Wynn Hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The case was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division of the Utica Police Department. After an investigation, Carrie Rorie, 64, of Utica, was arrested on August 26, 2024. She has been charged with assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.

Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the incident or the ongoing investigation.
